Your Home Is An Investment In Your Lifestyle

Do you want a beautiful kitchen but fear spending money?

It can be hard letting go of the fear of a large investment. A lot of times we find it hard to rationalize large purchases because we look at them with a scarcity mindset and as expenses rather than investments. We can miss the bigger picture and the many benefits and advantages that investing in your home can have. In order to not miss out on the incredible opportunities investing in your home can bring, we need to look at the reasoning behind it.

The kitchen is a wonderful place. It’s often the center of our social lives and the gathering place for our family and friends. Our kitchen is the room we spend the most time in and a key component that determines our health. A beautiful kitchen that is designed specifically for your lifestyle and aesthetic can become a focal point of your home and fantastic space to host events and entertain guests.

However, if your kitchen doesn’t match your lifestyle, it can throw you out of whack. When you don’t love your kitchen, it can become a chore to want to cook or have people over. This can cause both your health and social life to suffer. Your mood can sink and have ripple effects in every area of your life.

Your kitchen plays a much bigger role in your life than simply another room. Your kitchen is one of the first rooms that your guests will see and the room you will entertain the most with. It’s the room that will contribute most to your health and the quality of your lifestyle. Kitchens are not simply expenses, they are investments. Investing in remodeling your kitchen can not only provide you with an enviously beautiful asset that you get to enjoy daily, but it can also increase the overall value of your home and result in higher profits upon selling.

We value the details of your lifestyle and social circle and work to create a design that enhances both. Your desires for your guests and entertainment as well as your personal aesthetic are incorporated into a custom design to provide a seamless look that is personal to you.

Things to consider

Not everyone can take a kitchen remodel and the associated financial costs lightly. If you are like Stephanie and me, we consider purchases of this size thoroughly. Let’s walk through a typical kitchen that we design, the financial aspect of it, and how you can frame it to determine if it is the right decision for you.

For example, let's say that it would likely cost about $100,000 if doing kitchen a remodel. Each remodel depends on existing conditions and final material selections. However, for the sake of the example, let's say that this is what a custom kitchen design would typically run. We do cheaper and more expensive designs than this, but you can get an idea and scale the numbers appropriately.

Currently, financing a kitchen remodel can be done at about 3.25% if you refinance your house with enough equity. Assuming you have 25 years left on your mortgage that would mean this increased $100,000 would add an additional $653/month to your mortgage. If you just received a big raise, it’s possible this is nothing, but for most people, it’s probably a decent hit to their disposable income and worth considering further. Here are some items to compare it to:

6 dinners per month out. My wife and I go out for dinner, an appetizer, a drink each and dessert and the bill is $100+ dollars. If you have additional family members you’re taking out or more expensive restaurants near you, the number of dinners you could sacrifice in order to break even with affording to remodel your kitchen shrinks even more. Additionally, with a beautiful kitchen, you’ll want to cook at home even more. It will be easy. The sink will be bigger making dishwashing easier, the stove will be setup to make it easy to fit a number of pans, the drawers and cabinets will be designed for efficient movement, and the look and feel will make you never want to leave. Eating in will be healthier, more relaxing, and a better bonding opportunity for the family.

There are a lot of factors to be considered when investing into your home, and at S. Donnelly Interiors, we want to work with you to ensure remodeling your kitchen is a good fit for you and that it is designed in a way to meet the needs of your family's lifestyle and social circle.
